Pony fever

The girls have started horse riding lessons and so of course Pony Fever around here has hit new heights, possibly bordering on mania!

In her second lesson, Lili was learning to get the pony moving and manouvering between obstacles, as well as starting to manage a rising trot.  She had a wonderful time!

Amy was riding "Tinkerbell" today.  It was quite cold and windy out there and I think the cold sapped some of Amy's enthusiasm!

Of course we have been watching all the Olympic Equestrian events we can and being inspired by the clever horses and riders.

Fishing

We enjoyed a beautiful winter morning today (until the clouds came!) for a spot of fishing with Nan and Pop.

The pic below is Nathan fishing at the same spot back in 2006.
Great memories were made, even if no fish were caught!

Blue

Blue is my most favourite colour.  Like a bowerbird, if it's blue and shiny, I will gather it to my nest.  Our house is full of blue things.  I never get tired of blue, and fortunately the rest of the family also seems to like it!

To me, blue is the sky and the ocean. It is the freedom of a bird soaring through the sky, the power of a wave, or the gentle lap of the water.  Peaceful, hopeful, beautiful as a vast expanse of colour.

Green

I couldn't leave out this photo could I? Green dress-ups!

Most of my green photos are of cool, peaceful places.  Groves of trees, bubbling creeks, grassy fields, pretty gardens.

One of a kind

Lili is a girl who knows what she wants.

When it comes to clothes they must be pretty, comfortable and of certain colours. Any pants with bulky waistbands - like jeans- are deemed uncomfortable.

We have been hard pressed this winter to find warm pants she approves of, and so we took a trip to the fabric store last weekend and I set about sewing some for her.

I sew for Lili with some trepidation because you never know if all that work will end in her rejecting the garment.

The pattern is from this very inspiring book.

Happily, I can report that she LOVES these pants.

Warm, the correct colours (as chosen by Lili), comfortable, no scratchy bits or otherwise rejectable issues.

The first pair turned out a little long and with more flare than she is used to, so for the second pair I reduced the length and tapered the leg a little.

She's happy, I'm happy.  One of a kind pants for a one of a kind girl :)
